Slovenia’s Position in Global Trade

## Chapter 1: History of Slovenia

### Early History

Slovenia’s history dates back to prehistoric times, with evidence of human habitation found in the form of ancient artifacts. The country was home to Illyrian and Celtic tribes before being incorporated into the Roman Empire.

### The Roman Era

During Roman rule, Slovenia was part of the province of Noricum. Key Roman settlements such as Emona (modern-day Ljubljana), Celeia (Celje), and Poetovio (Ptuj) played crucial roles in trade and administration.

### The Middle Ages

Following the fall of the Roman Empire, Slovenia saw invasions by Germanic tribes, Slavs, and later the Frankish Empire. The Carantanians, an early Slavic group, established one of the first Slavic states in Europe. Over time, the region fell under the rule of the Habsburg Monarchy, marking centuries of Austrian influence.

### The 19th and 20th Centuries

The 19th century saw the rise of Slovene nationalism, culminating in the short-lived State of Slovenes, Croats, and Serbs in 1918, which later joined the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes (renamed Yugoslavia).
